Yup, I just installed this and it rocks!! Control comes from my iPhone 4s and the base is setup approx. 30' away at my router. Install took about 20 minutes and needed a little know how. Keyless - YES!

It doesn't rain very often in LA but when it does, we all bitch and moan as if we haven't seen the sun for weeks. Anyway, here's a great addition to Weather Underground for anyone looking for a simple way to check local weather.

Finally! iPhone 3G!
It took an early morning arrival at the Santa Monica Apple Store (8:30am) but so worth the wait in line!
Here are the basic details:
- Rachel & I were number 20 or so in line
- Apple opened the doors at 11:00am
- The line had approx. 100 people at 11:00am
- We were inside at 11:40am
- Purchase, Activation, etc. took approx 30 minutes
- Walked away from apple with our shiny new iPhones at 12:15pm
- The line still had 50+ people in it
- 24 hours into using the iPhone - LOVE IT!

IBM breakthrough - Racetrack Memory
Why even announce something that makes us all excited if you can't produce it for 8 more years.... UG - it would have been nice to have 250 GB in the iPhone or 1TB in the new laptops....
IBM is working on a new form of memory that promises future iPods could hold half a million songs the company has confirmed.
In two papers published in the April 11 issue of Science, IBM Fellow Stuart Parkin and colleagues at the IBM Almaden Research Center in San Jose describe the fundamentals of a technology dubbed "racetrack" memory
The memory is being described as faster and more reliable than a hard drive or flash memory. It combines elements of both memory types in its conception, but is capable of storing far larger quantities of data and reading that information an astonishing 100,000 times faster than flash memory is able to achieve. The solution uses spintronics, a technology that exploits the spin and charge properties of electrons to deliver large capacity memory on very small devices.
There's other advantages: like flash, there's no moving parts, but unlike flash it never wears out (flash drives can handle 10,000 read/write cycles before failing). Even better, the new storage technology is cheap to manufacture.
"It has been an exciting adventure to have been involved with research into metal spintronics since its inception almost 20 years ago with our work on spin-valve structures," said Dr. Parkin. "The combination of extraordinarily interesting physics and spintronic materials engineering, one atomic layer at a time, continues to be highly challenging and very rewarding. The promise of racetrack memory - for example, the ability to carry massive amounts of information in your pocket - could unleash creativity leading to devices and applications that nobody has imagined yet."
There's no chance of the new technology seeing immediate deployment, though the company hopes to provide storage solutions based on it in six to eight years. And the company hasn't yet built a functioning racetrack memory unit - but it's boffins are confident they have the theory pretty much nailed.
So in 2014, will Apple introduce the world to the iPod nano nano? Can we look forward to an even smaller, lighter MacBook Air?

Verizon Curve 8330 - TOO LATE

Back in January I called Verizon and asked them if they would update my phone and my wife's phone at little to no cost if I signed a new 2 year contract. They basically wanted to charge me $500 for both of us to get new phones. With that I decided to wait until the Verizon Curve launch and give it a second chance. Well it looks like the time is about to be here but I say TOO LATE Verizon.
The iPhone has seduced me long enough and with the release of the 3G model around the corner and the SDK software being released in June AT&T will be getting my new two year contract.

Death By Booze
Apparently 21 Captain & Cokes in a 3 hour time period and I am dead . I feel like I might have done this a few times in the past and here I am to blog about it. Yes, I can be stupid but give me some credit, the days of drinking that much dates back to college.
It would take 21 Captain & Cokes to kill me!

iPhone Idiot
Have you seen the commercial in which the pilot talks about avoiding a 3 hour delay thanks to his iPhone? Yeah…we don’t buy it either. But, someone did, and got spanked because of it. Because of weather delays, a guy’s plane gets diverted to a different airport. But, thanks to his trusty iPhone, the man notices the all-clear, and notifies the Flight Attendant. When relayed to the pilot, the pilot responded over the air with:
“If the passenger with the iPhone would be kind enough to use it to check the weather at our alternate, calculate our fuel burn due to being rerouted around the storms, call the dispatcher to arrange our release, and then make a phone call to the nearest Air Traffic Control center to arrange our timely departure amongst the other aircraft carrying passengers with iPhones, then we will be more than happy to depart. Please ring your call button to advise the Flight Attendant and your fellow passengers when you deem it ready and responsible for this multi-million dollar aircraft and its passengers to safely leave.”
You knew this was going to happen sooner rather than later…Just classic!

The Next Big Thing From Apple - iTablet
Could this be the next big product from Apple? This has been rumored for years... The whole touch screen thing would be great on a iTablet but holding it to your ear to make phone calls might be a little difficult... Wait, that's what the iPhone is for.

Recover Stolen Laptop, Get Free Beer for Life
This is awesome - get out your magnifine glass and start you hunt for a lifetime of beer!!
The owners of New Zealand-based boutique brewery Croucher Brewery Co. just got their laptop stolen. It was your usual crappy notebook, nothing fancy but full of valuable information for them. So valuable in fact that they have promised a free lifetime supply of their finest ale to whoever recovers it. That's about $18,000 in beerilicious fun. We asked Nigel, one of the owners, how many bottles that was as well as many other things about the laptop and their divine nectar.
Jesus Diaz: What laptop was it?
Nigel Gregory: It was a Dell Inspiron 5150.
JD: Any details that may help our readers find it online?
NG: I don't have the serial number with me now. The only thing I can think of that will automatically connect to the net is my antivirus/firewall program.
JD: What was in it that it's so important to offer free beer for life? I mean, come on, FREE beer from a non-industrial brewery for LIFE? That sounds like a pretty good deal to me.
NG: (Laugh) Yeah, it is a great offer. But we figure that since we don't have much spare cash and we make great beer, we would offer something a bit different. We have valued the beer at around USD18,000. It is a lot, but that is over a long period of time, at 12 bottles every month.
In terms of what is on the laptop, the main thing is financial info, all our accounts (the last backup was a few months ago—I know, I know, must back up more often). Also lots of photos, all our business email records, contact details, creative work. We do have a lot of it backed up, but have lost the more recent bits. It would save us a lot of time and effort if we get the laptop back.
JD: So any leads so far?
NG: Sadly, no. We've had a tremendous response to our offer, however, because we have got lots of coverage in New Zealand, and around the world for that matter. But the laptop remains "at large."
JD: I wonder if you get it back, will you start doing backups?
NG: (Laughter) Yes, I think you can safely assume we have learned our lesson. we've already implemented a couple of procedure changes to ensure we have some critical info in hard copy too.

Down 0-2 going to Wrigley.....
Yup - the Cubs have lost the first two games in Arizona and are heading to Chicago to play games 3 and 4 (game four if they win game three) at Wrigley Field. All I can say is I actually felt sick last night after the loss. I know I am a retard but there is no other team that can fuck with their fan's emotions like the Cubs. I just have to learn that this is part of being a Cubs fan....
My grandfather has been a fan for 82 years and has never had the pleasure of seeing them win the World Series. I guess I shouldn't be complaining, his disappointment in the team(s) is so much more. The sucky part is his comment to me last night before the game "Jess, I really hope they make it to the World Series this year." Now it just sucks even more. Come on Cubbies get your shit together!!
